Hato Mayor – Estimated 20 Service Hours
Meaningful. Sustainable. Unforgettable
Journey into the southern region of the Dominican Republic where steep hillsides, tobacco plantations and cow-spotted pastures stretch as far as the eye can see. You’ll travel deep into the mountain communities where rural poverty poses challenges to economic development, healthcare and access to education. Working together with community members, you’ll build sustainable solutions to these problems, as you connect with locals and become immersed in the culture.
Your Service Project Themes
We work with local non-profits to better understand the needs of each community and then focus projects on those issues. Themes include:
  • Health and Sanitation
  • Sustainable Community Development
  • Food Security

DAY 1: ARRIVE IN SANTO DOMINGO
Meet your Field Director at the airport and head to your service project site.

DAYS 2-6: SERVICE PROJECT — HATO MAYOR
As communities evolve so do their needs. That's why we work closely with non-profits to better understand each community's challenges. Since projects are determined closer to your actual tour date, here’s a glimpse at what a typical day might look like.
  • In the morning, begin your service project supporting local health initiatives.
  • Spend the afternoon immersed in cultural activities.
  • In the evening, reflect, discuss events as a group, and draw connections between the day’s work and relevant global issues.

DAY 7: TROPICAL BEACH
  • Dive into the tropical waters of the Caribbean and enjoy a full day at the beach.

DAY 8: DEPART FOR HOME
